Seems like I’m really off LinkedIn

I’ve written a couple of times in the past about my goal to leave . The last time was a month ago, when I wrote, ‘I found my replacement for LinkedIn!‘. Since then, I’ve only logged in to add new contacts, to check if it’s someone’s birthday, or to read messages.

In the meantime, I’ve written a few blog posts, and I admit that I’ve often considered posting them on LinkedIn as well, for people who don’t follow me on the Fediverse or via RSS. But each time, I asked myself: ‘Why?’ And every time, my answer boiled down to ‘For the clicks’. So I decided against cross-posting. Yes, I probably lost reach. But is that important to me? No! I don’t earn money from it and I don’t want to be a social media star or anything like that.

If someone is really interested in what I post, it isn’t that complicated to leave the LinkedIn “walled garden”. And so, I favoured ideology over reach. And I feel good about that. And this is the most important thing for me!

For consuming content, I have an anoymous Mastodon account where I can follow some people and topics. I feel like there could be some more content – but for me it’s enough to get the distraction I was seeking.
